Why? and How? This overview will present the role of the Library Media Specialist as a partner in assessment and designing instruction to improve student learning. Information and examples will be shared based on information presented by Virginia Harada, Barbara Stripling, Marjorie Pappas and Allison Zmuda, masters of assessment in the library media center, at the AASL Forum on Assessment in Rhode Island. 10:15 – 10:30 Break 10:30 – 11:30 Morning session continued 11:30 – 12:10 Lunch – Country Catering Diane Kucera, Litchfield Table Talk Topics 12:20 – 2:40 Afternoon Breakout Sessions: PLC Session Continues -- (Professional Learning Community) Presenter Jeanne Pope, Shelton Public Schools. Learn about grouping together, sharing new ideas and presenting them to future MLS meetings. Reviewing objectives, forming groups and establishing goals for the PLCs. Information Literacy Skills: Presenters: Jason Everett, ESU 10 Systems Engineer, and Judy Henning, Kearney Public Schools Director of Media Services. Being Information Literate in the Information Age is important to success in school, the workplace and at home. This begins with making sure Internet resources are valid. Learn strategies students need to know to determine the validity of information found on the world-wide-web. But Information Literacy is so much more than evaluating Internet information. It is taking the information obtained and using it to solve problems using higher level thinking skills.
